Intermilan 3-0 Cagliari: 10 points clear

Inter Milan moved 10 points clear of AC Milan at the top of Serie A with a convincing victory over in-form Cagliari.

Winter signing Goran Pandev gave them the perfect start after five minutes' play with Argentinian duo Walter Samuel (20) and Diego Milito (47) wrapping the game up nice and early for Jose Mourinho's men.

The result ended a six-game unbeaten run for Massimiliano Allegri's Cagliari, denting their hopes of European qualification.

The Nerazzurri had won their last eight consecutive home games and the confidence that afforded them showed as they forged ahead in the sixth minute.

Javier Zanetti led an Inter attack and created an opening for Macedonian forward Pandev to score from close range.

To the Sardinians' credit their response was positive as Daniele Conti forced an excellent save from Julio Cesar in the Inter goal with a 25-yard drive.

However, Inter again served notice of their attacking threat with Pandev to the fore in their best moments, first firing in a shot from outside the box which just cleared the crossbar in the ninth minute and then drawing a stunning save from Cagliari goalkeeper Michael Agazzi with a superb volley five minutes later.

The second goal did come in the 20th minute as defender Samuel outjumped Cagliari's Michele Canini to steer home a header.

The match already looked beyond Cagliari, and Brazilian forward Jeda blasted a chance over from 25 yards.

Allegri's men had reason to feel aggrieved in the 34th minute when Alessandro Matri's goal was ruled out for offside, with the visiting team protesting to the referee that Davide Santon's touch had played him on.

Julio Cesar ensured Inter held their two-goal advantage going into the half-time interval as he kept out a Nene volley that seemed destined for the corner of the net.

Two minutes into the second half the game was effectively over as a contest when Pandev linked up with Samuel Eto'o to create a chance for Milito, whose low right-foot shot from 10 yards took his league tally to 14.

A defensive mix-up between Agazzi and Davide Astori almost resulted in an embarrassing goal going against Cagliari just after the hour mark, and Inter came close to a fourth again with just under 20 minutes to go.

Milito shaped to shoot but instead back-heeled the ball towards Pandev, but he could not apply the vital finish to add his second of the game.

The last chance fell Cagliari's way as Matri failed to make contact with Daniele Dessena's dangerous low cross into the Inter box 10 minutes from the end.

For Inter it marked three more points towards what looks like another Scudetto success, with AC Milan dropping points in a goalless draw at Bologna.
