Inter 0-0 Barcelona: Champion held

uk.eurosport.yahoo.com
Inter and Barcelona shared the points in a 0-0 draw at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the opening game of their respective Champions League Group F campaigns.

Both sides went close in an end-to-end encounter, but neither could find the breakthrough to bring even a single goal to what was an engrossing goalless draw.

Lionel Messi went closest to breaking the stalemate but was uncharacteristically off target in the second half from close range, while Dejan Stankovic escaped unpunished for what looked to be a clear handball inside his own area after coming on as a substitute for Inter on the hour mark.

As if the pitting of Italian title holders Inter against reigning European and Spanish champions Barcelona was not enough of a spectacle to begin with, the added hype regarding the Samuel Eto'o versus Zlatan Ibrahimovic contest heightened expectation before kick-off.
